Shillong, November 23: Delhi residents woke up to a chilly Thursday morning as temperatures plummeted to 9.2 degrees Celsius in the Safdarjung area, marking the season’s lowest and the national capital’s first sub-10-degree Celsius reading this year.
As per India Today, minimum temperatures were recorded at 10.4 degrees Celsius on Lodhi Road, with Jafarpur, Mungeshpur, and Narela reporting 11.2, 11.3, and 12.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures in Delhi-NCR ranged from 26.7 to 27.6 degrees Celsius.
The sudden drop in temperature is attributed to persistent cold northwesterly winds sweeping through the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) suggests a likelihood of rain in the coming days, further contributing to a decrease in both maximum and minimum temperatures in the national capital.
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 25.7 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, while the air quality remained in the “very poor” category. The relative humidity in the city was recorded at 65 per cent at 5.30 pm on Wednesday, with the weather department predicting mainly clear sky and haze during the day.
In the morning, pollution levels worsened amid unfavorable meteorological conditions, placing the air quality in the ‘very poor’ category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 373.
