SHILLONG, Nov 24: The state government on Friday awarded Meghalaya’s Nambie Jessica Marak who has made the state proud by securing a spot in the semi finals of the Master Chef India Season 8.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his joy over the triumph of tribal chef Nambie Jessica Marak in the national platform.
‘At the Tri Hills Ensemble, we awarded culinary genius & #MasterChefIndia Semi-finalist, #TribalChef Nambie Jessica Marak,” the chief minister posted on his X page.
“We are so proud to see her take center stage with her culinary masterpieces, presenting fusions of tribal cuisine,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nambie Jessica Marak is over the moon after making it to the semi finals as she is getting the opportunity to showcase the culinary heritage of Meghalaya before the world.
Nambie Jessica Marak said that the journey has been incredible as she hails from a small village of West Khasi Hills and it is an honour for her to showcase the culinary heritage of Meghalaya in a platform like Master Chef India. Stating that she loves documenting the traditional recipes from the Northeast, Marak added that her journey started when she moved to Chennai and she was tired of dosas and biryani.
“I started searching for recipes of Northeast and it was available in vernacular and I also started my Youtube channel,” she said while adding that she loves cooking in the show under pressure as it is about testing your creativity.
Reacting to a query, she added that the dishes of the Northeast taste natural and the chefs in the show have wide knowledge of the cuisine of the country and the rest of the world.
“They enjoy the diversity which I put on the plate,” she said while terming cooking as her passion.
She also urged the people of the state and the region to document their creativity even as she added that if people have passion for cooking, they should fully get into it.
Hailing from a remote village of Upper Rangsa in the West Khasi Hills, Nambie is not just a talented chef but also a visionary.
She is the brain behind ‘Eat Your Kappa’, a YouTube channel dedicated to the cuisine and culture of Northeast India, with a focus on the Garo cooking method.
