Shillong, Nov 28: The state government is examining requests from Dorbar Shnongs to aid in the infrastructure development of community drug rehabilitation centers.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the government is exploring possibilities to assist dorbar shnongs who are ready to provide land for setting up such rehabilitation centres through the Dream Mission Project.
Acknowledging civil society support in the government’s anti-drug campaign, Lyngdoh highlighted positive signs, noting an increase in women reporting domestic violence.
The women helpline received 36,362 calls, registering 477 cases, with 158 active and 304 closed cases.
“We have also taken a decision to merge both the helpline number of women and children,” Lyngdoh added.
Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar shared that each district has One Stop Centres providing comprehensive support to women facing various forms of violence.
These centers aim to assist women regardless of age, class, caste, or other factors, offering counseling, medico-legal aid, and police support under one roof. The services extend to women experiencing harassment, assault, trafficking, and other crimes.
