SHILLONG, Dec 5: The state government is going through a series of rigorous consultation processes before implementing one large reform in the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
It is also looking to reform the process of recruitment through the creation of more boards.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said, “There are a lot of proposals that are coming in on piecemeal basis but I don’t want to clear piecemeal reforms in the Cabinet. I would like to go for one large reform in MPSC.”
“We are doing a lot of consultations with stakeholders, including MPSC members. Once we are sure and ready about all the reforms, we will implement them,” he added.
During the last autumn session of the Assembly, Sangma had stated that the state government is taking steps to revamp and improve the functioning of the MPSC.
Asked about the delay in bringing the reforms, he said, “You have to understand the purpose is to ensure that recruitment takes place smoothly. The creation of different boards will allow immediate implementation and recruitment. What we are doing is part of the reform.”
He said principals had to be appointed in certain government schools and the matter had been pending for more than five years. He said it was not the MPSC’s fault as it was overloaded. He said the government started the boards precisely to reform the recruitment process.
“When I say we are reforming MPSC and the entire recruitment process by creating more boards, we are allowing quick implementation of recruitment to take place,” he said.
He also said that with the creation of the health recruitment board, the appointment of doctors, which had been pending for five years, was completed within three months.
In this context, he referred to the recruitments made in schools, excluding LP schools. He said the remaining recruitments, pending for last five years, will be made soon.
