SHILLONG, Dec 5: More than four months since it registered its steadfast objection to the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in colleges affiliated to NEHU, the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association on Tuesday announced the withdrawal of its non-cooperation movement against the University.
This was the result of a unanimous decision made during the Extended Executive Committee meeting which was held here on Tuesday.
The non-cooperation movement, which kicked off on August 1 this year, was in response to the alleged illegitimate implementation of NEP 2020, specifically concerning the Fourth Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
MCTA general secretary, Airpeace W Rani said that the decision to withdraw stems from the recent Post-Facto Approval for NEP 2020 implementation during the Emergent Academic Council meeting, NEHU, on October 26.
He further said that the withdrawal is effective immediately after the conclusion of the meeting.
While the movement has been called off, Rani said that the MCTA reaffirms its commitment to addressing other concerns related to NEP 2020.
Ongoing engagement with NEHU and, if necessary, with the government, will persist to seek resolutions on these outstanding issues, he said.
The MCTA also extended profound gratitude to all members for their resolute support during the non-cooperation movement.
“We also thank our well-wishers, students’ bodies, civil society organisations and the press fraternity for their unwavering support throughout this challenging period. We look forward to continued support as we navigate ongoing discussions and work towards constructive resolutions on the remaining issues,” he added.
