UDP welcomes former KHADC MDC Basaiawmoit

Shillong, Dec 5: The UDP on Monday welcomed former Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC, James Ban Basaiawmoit to the party.
Basaiawmoit was formerly received by UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh at a function at the community hall of the Dorbar Shnong Golflink in the presence of senior party leaders including party working presidents, Paul Lyngdoh and Titosstarwell Chyne, general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh, party MLAs and others.
Basaiawmoit has joined the UDP eyeing to contest the upcoming district council election from the UDP.
Speaking on the occasion, Basaiawmoit said he was singled out in the PDF party for his opposition against the party merging with the NPP which may have also compelled me to resign from the party.
‘I have hoped that the UDP will be firm on its ideologies as a regional force to protect the interest of the indigenous community’, he said.
“I am looking for a new beginning of my political journey by associating myself with the UDP”.
Meanwhile, the UDP president said that the party is happy to welcome Basaiawmoit. “We hope that his joining will help to boost the party”.
