Shillong, Dec 6: The KHADC on Wednesday shut down six shops operated by non-tribal traders who lacked labour and trading licences or who neglected to renew their licences.
The shops were closed down during a checking conducted by the council following complaints from the Khun Kynthei U Hynniewtrep Association (KKHA) about numerous non-tribal traders operating their businesses in Iewduh without proper labour and trading licences.
The enforcement wing of the council carried out the checking in the presence of a number of people, including KHADC EMs, Gigur Myrthong and Fantin J Lakadong, Congress MDC Gabriel Wahlang, a magistrate, and Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ainam Sing Syiem.
Later, Myrthong told reporters that they had taken this action to check after receiving complaints from KKHA, but regrettably, the association members were not present when the checking was done.
