SHILLONG, Dec 9: Feared by police raids, the growing urban phenomenon of rave parties in Guwahati has now shifted to the safe sanctuary of Meghalaya.
This is the finding of Assam police after it nabbed two drug suppliers in Guwahati on Thursday.
According to Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Baruah, the clandestine rave parties where banned substance like cocaine is used by the youth of rich families, had stopped organising them in Guwahati.
Constantly hounded by police, the venue of such rave parties have now shifted to tranquil Meghalaya’s plush hotels and safe private resorts.
Baruah was quoted as saying that a large number of youths from elite families fall prey to substance abuse.
“The illicit drugs are consumed in the parties of youths belonging to rich families,” he said.
Earlier, police raided a flat at Hengrabari area in Guwahati and rounded up two drug peddlers Digbijoy Navis and Kunardan Thakur. Police recovered 33 gm of cocaine and 11.64 gm of MDMA commonly known as “molly” or “mandy”.
When contacted, SP (City), Vivek Syiem stated that Guwahati police has not provided them with any information regarding this issue.
However, Syiem continued, “We are vigilant on these types of activities.”
