SHILLONG, Dec 9: The Meghalaya BJP on Saturday asked its disgruntled members to come to party office and iron out differences through discussions instead of washing their dirty linen in public.
“We really don’t know who these people are but the president is very accommodative. He was mentioning that if anyone has a problem, please come forward. We will sit and discuss the issue,” BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said.
“It is not right to directly go to the press and cast aspersions on anyone. Be brave enough to come to the party office and discuss if you have any issues,” Kharkrang added.
A section in the BJP is questioning the inclusion of some controversial leaders in the party’s newly-constituted Executive Committee (EC). These leaders are particularly livid over the selection of those from the Garo Hills region.
“We cannot take these things very seriously. The new president has joined and created a new group, so obviously some elements will be disgruntled over not being accommodated. I think we should not go too much into this,” Kharkrang added.
BJP sources told The Shillong Times requesting anonymity that the party, which boasts of fighting corruption, should not have tainted leaders.
They questioned the inclusion of Bernard Marak in the EC as vice president, pointing out that he has not been still cleared in the alleged Edenbari ‘farmhouse being used as brothel’ case. He is out on bail but has not been acquitted by the court, they said.
The BJP sources also questioned the inclusion of Dipul R Marak as vice president, stating that he is one of the persons to be charge-sheeted by the Lokayukta in a corruption case regarding faulty construction.
