SHILLONG, Dec 10: Succumbing to the pressure from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) over the appointment of one Rohit Prasad as the Technical Officer/Senior Consultant in the North-Eastern Hill University, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof PS Shukla has terminated the service of the said official.
A member of the JAC, on Sunday, said that the VC has communicated to the JAC recently that he has taken a decision to remove Prasad from service.
No sooner did this issue abate than another controversy seems to have erupted in NEHU.
The JAC is scheduled to meet on Monday to deliberate over corruption charges against an engineer attached with the College Development Council (CDC).
Sources said that the JAC will also discuss steps taken by the university on its charter of demands.
It may be recalled that the JAC, comprising NEHUTA, NEHUNSA and NEHUSU, on November 16 had decided to suspend its indefinite strike as the Vice Chancellor sought five days to examine the charter of demands including the removal of Rohit Prasad.
The VC had agreed to form a committee to address the issue related to the marking system besides the hostel facilities and healthcare.
Prof Shukla had also assured the JAC of addressing the demand to appoint statutory officers and University engineers and to relieve teaching and non-teaching staff of ministerial duties.
