Meghalaya set for sports infrastructure overhaul

SHILLONG, Dec 13: The State government of Meghalaya has strategically identified nearly 40 sports infrastructure projects, in addition to those already in progress, signaling a significant transformation in the state’s infrastructure within the next six to twelve months.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, addressing the media on Wednesday, emphasized the ongoing efforts to boost sports infrastructure, particularly highlighting the construction of numerous indoor stadiums.
He conveyed the government’s commitment to sustaining the momentum built over the past years, extending the push for sports infrastructure development into the current year.
Chief Minister Sangma elaborated, stating, “Not only are several stadiums currently under construction, but many more are in the pipeline for approval.
We have already shortlisted nearly 40 infrastructure projects across the state, and work on these initiatives is set to commence shortly.”
Providing updates on the preparations for the Meghalaya Games, Chief Minister Sangma disclosed a recent review conducted in Tura.
He assured that all necessary arrangements, including accommodations and logistical requirements, are on track.
Addressing the challenge of hosting a sizable crowd of 4000 people, he sought support from various communities, schools, and colleges, emphasizing investments in infrastructure to accommodate the influx of participants.
“We anticipate the smooth execution of the games, and we are committed to doing everything necessary to ensure their success,” Chief Minister Sangma affirmed.
Discussing the preparations for the national games, Chief Minister Sangma expressed confidence, stating,
“We are on schedule with our stadium preparations. Within the next six to twelve months, you will witness a substantial transformation in the overall infrastructure, with major projects reaching completion.”
As preparations for the Meghalaya Games progress smoothly, the state anticipates overcoming the unprecedented challenge of hosting a significant crowd.
