CEM of KHADC releases short film ‘Rivers – Source of Life”

Shillong, Dec 15: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Friday released a short  film on environmental awareness titled  “Ki Wah-Ki Thwei ka Jingim” (Rivers-Source of Life) at his office chamber here.

The short film has been made by Nicholas J Kharkamni and Melvin N Warbah.

Speaking on the occasion, KHADC CEM said that he was happy to see (Kharkamni) who is fondly known as “Bah Manik” has taken forward the campaign towards protection of environment by making this meaningful movie on the need to protect the rivers and water bodies.

He also said that the KHADC in the past few months is making efforts of addressing the problem of waste management through the Solid Waste Management Act, 2020 of the council.

Syiem further informed that they had framed the rules to implement the Solid Waste Management Act, 2020 and the same would be placed in the upcoming winter session of the council.

Meanwhile, Kharkamni said that he has been trying to raise the issue of the problem of waste management since this is one of major issues currently faced by the State.

According to him, he has talked about the need to protect the various water bodies through his campaign “My Meghalaya My Pride”.

He also lauded the efforts of the present EC in the KHADC for taking in the lead to address the problem of waste management within it is jurisdiction.

It may be mentioned that the short film depicts the ignorance of man with respect to safeguarding the water bodies  and this this ignorance of people in due course of time leads to endangering the pristine water bodies.
