Shillong, Dec 18: KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Monday made it abundantly evident that the United Khasi–Jaintia Hills District (Trading by Non–Tribals) Regulation of 1954 stipulates that the council will be strict when granting trading licences to non-tribal traders.
“Those who do not present proper documentation will not be entertained. All legitimate non-tribal traders who can meet the requirements set forth by the council will receive trading licences,” Syiem told reporters.
He said they will issue trading licences on valid grounds and that any refusal will be based on strong grounds.
The council recently decided to transfer control of the RR Colony’s administration to the Dorbar Shnong of Rynjah, according to the KHADC CEM.
While claiming to be impartial towards all, he added that the district council does not acknowledge any particular society because it must uphold customs, particularly in regards to the management of the towns and villages under its control.
The current EC is dedicated to preserving the customs, culture, and practices of the indigenous Khasi tribe, he stated.
“The Dorbar Shnong and Hima will be unable to carry out their duties if the council ceases to exist,” he added.
