First-of-its-kind kabaddi tournament debuts in state

Shillong, Dec 23: In a groundbreaking move, the BJP Meghalaya Kisan Morcha, in collaboration with the BJP National Kisan Morcha and in adherence to the directives of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), successfully organized the inaugural NAMO Kabaddi Tournament.
The unprecedented event took place simultaneously at two locations, with one tournament unfolding in the morning at Sohra Sub-Division, East Khasi Hills District, and the other in the afternoon at Ri-Bhoi district on December 20.
At the Sohra venue, Shyam Shundor, In-charge of BSF Bholaganj Post, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, providing encouragement to the participants and boosting the morale of the players.
Ekhel Marwein, the Guest of Honour and Principal of Ramakrishna Mission Bholaganj, expressed his delight and extended his best wishes to all the participants for a prosperous sporting career.
Emphasizing the historic nature of the tournament, Marwein acknowledged the organizing committee’s efforts and conveyed gratitude for bringing such an event to Meghalaya.
Ralden Bryan Shabong, the President of BJP Meghalaya Kisan Morcha, underscored the organization’s commitment to discovering and promoting sporting talent from rural areas.
He articulated the goal of creating a valuable pool of athletes for both the state and the nation.
The Ri-Bhoi leg of the tournament saw representation from BJP Meghalaya, with State General Secretary Shri Evarist Myrching, BJYM President Shri Mewaker Lyngdoh, BJYM General Secretary Joydeep Ghosh, BJP RiBhoi District President Shri Sen Thabah, and President of RiBhoi District Kisan Morcha Shri Munim Raja participating. Additionally, Mandal Presidents from RiBhoi District, along with members of Mahila Morcha, graced the event, contributing to its success.
The NAMO Kabaddi Tournament’s debut in Meghalaya not only marked a historic milestone in the state’s sporting landscape but also reflected the BJP Meghalaya Kisan Morcha’s commitment to fostering talent at the grassroots level.
As the echoes of spirited Kabaddi matches resonate, the event showcased a blend of sportsmanship, community engagement, and political support.
The success of the tournament underscores the potential for such initiatives to unlock hidden athletic potential in rural regions, contributing to the broader vision of creating a robust cadre of sports enthusiasts for the state and the nation.
