Shillong, Dec 31: The state police have begun evaluating the security measures to be adopted for NPP MLA from Sohra, Gavin Miguel Mylliem in response to the death threat from the banned HNLC, which held him accountable for the closure of Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL).
On Sunday, a senior police official announced that the Sohra MLA’s security is currently being evaluated.
The officer declared, “We will accordingly take measures to beef up his security.”
In a statement, HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary, Sainkupar Nongtraw demanded that Mylliem should assume responsibility and resign from his position as an MLA.
“If he (Gavin) refuses to step down, we will hold him accountable. Just as you and your government dare to bury MCCL alive, we will hold you accountable by our own actions. Traitors of the people should be punished with death,” Nongtraw threatened.
He continued by saying that the HNLC vehemently opposes the government’s malign intent, which seeks to deprive the people of Sohra of their jobs and subject them to special interests’ agendas.
He claims that the government wants to close down MCCL and support the growth of cement plants owned by non-tribal people from other states.
