Caution against tovertaking on Umiam Bridge

SHILLONG, Jan 2: Superintendent of Police (City), Vivek Syiem has issued a warning against vehicles overtaking while plying through the Umiam bridge.
According to the notification here on Tuesday, following the repair work of the Umiam Bridge which is being carried out round the clock, vehicles are being allowed from both sides (one way) in phases.
However, it has been noticed that some vehicles overtake while plying through the Umiam bridge leading to further traffic jams.
‘To ensure smooth and safe passage, motorists are hereby requested not to overtake’, the SP said, adding that violators will be dealt with strictly as per the provisions of the law.
‘Furthermore, to decongest the vehicular traffic towards Umiam bridge and to avoid traffic jams, motorists are requested to take the alternate route of their journey via Shillong By-pass’.
