SHILLONG, Jan 3: The BJP, a constituent of the NPP-led alliance in Meghalaya, slammed the state government on Wednesday for the delay in releasing the scholarships of students despite multiple assurances.
“Scholarship is given to clear the college expenses and now the classes are over but the students have still not received the scholarship. The umbrella scholarship is online now and all the documents have to be forwarded from the state to the Centre for the money to be credited in the students’ accounts,” Tura MDC and State BJP vice-president, Bernard Marak said.
For some reason or the other, the state government has not forwarded the list of some students to the Centre. This has prevented many students from receiving the scholarship, he said.
In December, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma assured the release of scholarships in 2 weeks but things have not moved yet.  Reminding Sangma of his multiple assurances, Marak said: “The resentment and disappointment amongst the students is growing because they have to apply for the renewal now. How can they when they have not received the previous scholarships?”
