SHILLONG, Dec 6: High Court of Meghalaya has received a threat through an email raising alarm about explosives planted in the court premises.
According to the email, explosives have been planted inside every court in the country.
Following this development, police have beefed up security and even the High Court has been alerted about the threat.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Sylvester Nongtnger said the police have alerted the security team at the High Court.
Confirming the threat, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said that the security teams have been deployed in the court.
It was also learnt that the bomb squad and a canine team were deployed on the court premises.
Earlier on Friday, the Patna High Court had also received a bomb threat through an e-mail, which however turned out to be a hoax.
A team of Anti-Terrorist Squad, dog squad, bomb squad, cyber cell and other units were called, and they thoroughly checked the court premises.
“A search operation was conducted throughout the court premises but no suspicious article was found. The e-mail threat turned out to be a hoax. The sender will be arrested soon,” a police officer said.
The sender of the mail had threatened to “blow up” the court.
Several museums in Mumbai, including the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, had also received threatening emails warning about bomb blasts.
As per officials, the threatening mails were sent to major museums, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Colaba and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli.
The police and bomb disposal squad investigated the museums that received the emails, but no trace of explosives was found, they said.
