B’deshi mob reportedly kills local in EJH

JOWAI, Jan 7: A group of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly assaulted two locals working at a betel nut plantation in East Jaintia Hills along the Indo-Bangla border. One of the victims of the assault, identified as Chiang Dhar (50), a resident of Umkiang under Lumshnong police station, died in the incident which took place on Saturday.
Another, Rahul Pohtam, a resident of Lumsoski, managed to escape.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the afternoon when a group of Bangladeshi nationals assaulted the duo at Lumsoski, which lies at a stone’s throw distance from Umkiang village.
Police and residents of Umkiang arrived at the area after being informed about the incident, and to take possession of the body of the vicitim.
In this connection, KSU Narpuh Circle has denounced the alleged killing terming the act as ‘brutal and cold-blooded’.
The union also conveyed its condolences to the victim’s family.
