KVK holds field day for farmers

Tura, Jan 11: A field day on Toria TS-38 variety in rice fallow was organised on Wednesday at Chisimari playground, Resubelpara C&RD block, North Garo Hills by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Garo Hills (CAU Imphal), Meghalaya under NEH component of AICRP Rapeseed and mustard funded by AICRP (R&M), CAU, Imphal Centre.

Altogether 31 farmers from three adopted villages- Thapa Agitchak, Thapa Danggre and Chisimari of North Garo Hills attended the programme. Representatives from SeSTA and BAKDIL (NGO) also attended the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest of the programme, Nitul Das, AGM. MBDA, North Garo Hills explained about the importance of rapeseed & mustard cultivation, advantages of integrated farming of rapeseed and mustard with apiculture and expressed his willingness to provide necessary help from his department to upright the farmers income.

Dr. Brijendra Singh Rajawat, Principal Scientist & Head highlighted the importance of high yielding varieties as compared to local cultivars in terms of higher yield and requested farmers to come forward with full eagerness to increase the production & productivity of crops in their fields.

Earlier, Dr.Yanglem Sofia Devi, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) briefed about the technology demonstrated and importance of toria cultivation in rice fallow to increase cropping intensity and doubling farmers income and explained about the objective of the field day.
