Guwahati, Jan 27: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria addressed young voters on the occasion of 14th National Voters’ Day here, stating that their voices and votes have the potential to steer the nation towards development.
Addressing first-time voters during a programme organised on the occasion by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam in collaboration with the Office of the District Election Officer, Kamrup (Metro) here on Thursday, Kataria said their votes constitute the core principle of democracy.
“The nation’s prosperity hinges on everyone’s active participation in the electoral process. Voters’ sense of duty, which reflects through exercising their franchise, is vital for shaping the country,” he said.
Terming voters as the foundation of India’s democracy, the Governor highlighted their ability to shape the nation’s destiny by electing the right individuals.
Kataria further praised the Election Commission of India (ECI) and underlined its crucial role in upholding Indian democracy through transparent, impartial and independent electoral processes.
Underscoring the significance of voting, he stressed that every citizen could exert their right through their vote.
“Voting allows individuals to choose their government and contribute to the nation’s progress,” the Governor said, while calling upon everyone, regardless of their background, to exercise their right to vote for the collective advancement of the nation.
