SHILLONG, Jan 28: Congress MLA from Gambegre, Saleng Sangma is most likely to be the party’s nominee for the Tura seat in the Lok Sabha polls.
MPCC president and Lok Sabha member from Shillong, Vincent H Pala told The Shillong Times on Sunday that Saleng is the only candidate who has applied for a party ticket to run for the Tura parliamentary seat.
“The party’s screening committee will meet on Monday to review the party candidates’ applications. Following this, the applications will be forwarded to the Central Election Committee for approval,” Pala explained.
Saleng Sangma, who is well-liked for his blunt remarks, is anticipated to put up a fierce fight against NPP candidate and sitting MP, Agatha Sangma in the Tura seat, which serves as a stronghold for Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his family.
Party sources have also confirmed that Pala is the only candidate who has filed his application to run for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
Pala is seeking re-election for a fourth term as an MP from the Shillong seat, and is expected to face stiff challenge from NPP’s Ampareen Lyngdoh, UDP-HSPDP common candidate Robert June Kharjahrin and VPP’s Ricky AJ Syngkon.
