Mawkyrwat MDC, others rally to NPP

MAWKYRWAT, Feb 7: After the thumping support for NPP from Rangthong village of East Khasi Hills, the district seems to have more to offer to the ruling party as Mawkyrwat MDC Carness Sohshang along with his supporters are all set to join the party soon.
The was confirmed by president of NPP South West Khasi Hills District and state president of party’s youth wing — National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) — Kitborlang Nongrem after the meeting of the NPP Mawkyrwat Block Committee at Nativity Hall, Mawkyrwat, on February 6.
Earlier in the day, several supporters from other political parties including the UDP, BJP and Congress, led by former vice president of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) South West Khasi Hills District, Mandilos Nongbri, had joined the NPP at a meeting in Rangthong village, 15 km from Mawkyrwat.
NPYF state president told media persons that the matter regarding Sohshang and his supporters planning to join the NPP was discussed at the meeting of the NPP Mawkyrwat Block Committee, while adding that the party workers welcomed such a move.
The meeting had in attendance state vice president of NPP Hamletson Dohling, former Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang, president of NPP West Khasi Hills, Macmillan Byrsat among others.
Sources from the Congress camp in Mawkyrwat said that recently a meeting of the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee (MBCC) was held at the house of the Mawkyrwat MDC, Carness Sohshang, in Mawkyrwat.
At the meet, all office-bearers including the president, Valentine Thyrniang, had resigned from the party and dissolved the MBCC, he claimed.
Sources also said that Sohshang will contest the upcoming MDC election from Mawkyrwat constituency on an NPP ticket.
