SAI Shillong announces trials for multiple sports disciplines

Shillong, Feb 7: The Sports Authority of India’s Shillong center is set to conduct trials starting next week in various sports disciplines including archery, athletics, boxing, judo, karate, and football.
The trials for all these sports will be conducted at the SAI Shillong’s NEHU campus and are open to both boys and girls aged between 12 and 18 years (15-18 years for football). While football trials are exclusively for boys, the other sports welcome participation from both genders. (Note: Archery’s residential intake is limited to boys, with non-residential options available to both boys and girls.)According to a press release from SAI, athlete selection will be based on merit and performance, considering achievements in recognized competitions at district, state, national, and international levels, along with a series of skill assessments including aptitude and attitude tests.
Prospective candidates are required to bring two recent passport size photographs, Aadhaar card, and an attested copy of their birth certificate issued by relevant authorities such as the municipality, CHC/PHC, or school, along with any sports achievement certificates.
Eligibility criteria stipulate that athletes must fall within the age range of 12 to 18 years as of February 1, 2024, for individual sports, while for team disciplines, the age range is 10 to 14 years or 15 to 18 years as of the same date. Exceptions to age criteria may be considered for those exhibiting special potential.
For individual sports, candidates must have achieved top three positions in district championships, inter-education district-level competitions, or championships organized by confederations of public schools, CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, PYKKA, etc. For team sports, participation in recognized state-level competitions organized by state sports associations, state sports council, national school games, or state sports departments is required.
All trial participants must present a medical fitness certificate from a recognized medical practitioner. Admission to SAI will be finalized following age verification and medical examination.
