Mawkyrwat, Feb 8: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) South West Khasi Hills unit on Thursday appreciated the seriousness of the Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong to the demand of the federation to widen the 4 km portion of the Ranikor-Nongjri road from Borbasing Bridge, Ranikor to Alikwareng junction into a standard two-lane road.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the Ranikor-Nongjri road at Borbasing Bridge, 45 km from Mawkyrwat, president of the FKJGP, South West Khasi Hills, Kenesjune L Nonglait said that the federation would like to thank the deputy chief minister for taking the matter seriously in which he had held many meetings with top officials of PWDs and NHIDCL for widening the 4 km portion of the Ranikor-Nongjri road.
“We have also been informed that on February 13, top officials of the NHIDCL and PWD (Roads) will conduct a survey on the 4 km portion of the Ranikor-Nongjri road and complete the DPR as soon as possible for constructing it as a 2-lane road,” Nonglait said.
Nonglait also said that the federation will keep on watching what will happen to the road, and if the government fails to construct the 4 km portion of the Ranikor-Nongjri road into a 2-lane road just like the stretch of the road, the FKJGP will have no other option, but to file a Public Litigation Interest in the court of law.
