Nongpoh, Feb 13: The Ri Bhoi District Sports Association (RBDSA) hosted a momentous commendation event at the District Library Auditorium Hall, honoring distinguished athletes who represented the district at the 5th Meghalaya Games 2024 and Khelo India Youth Games 2024.
The ceremony, graced by prominent figures including Meghalaya Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, witnessed the felicitation of two outstanding sports achievers: Sr. Rose Mary Lyngdoh, securing a Bronze Medal in Javelin Throw at the National Rural Games, and Smt. Margareth Pathaw, a Gold Medalist in Arms Wrestling at the International level.
A total of 112 sports achievers and 26 officials were bestowed with mementos and certificates of recognition for their exemplary performances by the chief guest and other dignitaries present.
Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh commended RBDSA for their commitment to recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of sports achievers who excelled in the recent sporting events.
She praised the collaborative efforts between the association and the Sport Department, emphasizing the importance of supporting young athletes to enhance the quality of games, thus contributing to the honor and dignity of the district and the state.
Highlighting the talent displayed during the Meghalaya Games at Tura, Dr. Lyngdoh congratulated all the winners and stressed the significance of focus, discipline, and continuous skill improvement. She encouraged athletes to balance their time between sports and studies for a sustainable future, reminding them of the available government scholarships for sports medalists.
