280 runners participate in Khelo India Run in Shillong

Shillong, Feb 15: In a collaborative effort by the Directorate of Sport and Youth Affairs Government of Meghalaya, the North Eastern Hills University Shillong, and the Sport Authority of India, a 6.5 KM run was organized today as part of the Promotional Activities for Khelo India University Games 2024.
Colonel Omkar Singh (retd), Registrar of North Eastern Hills University, along with John F Kharshiiing, Working President of Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Prof. L Kma, and other dignitaries, flagged off the run.
The event saw participation from 280 runners across various categories, including open category male and female, as well as participants above 50 years of age. Dabit Dkhar clinched the victory in the 6.5 Km open category male, followed by Kangujam Bikram Meitei in second place and Rishanmehi Ryngkhlem in third. In the female category, Marqueenless Ramsiej secured the title, with Sarojani and Bandasharai Marwein finishing second and third, respectively. In the open category for participants above 50 years, Badon Singh Tham (Male) and Ibameri Shulllai (Female) received Consolation Prizes.
Colonel Omkar Singh (retd), Registrar of North Eastern Hills University, addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in promoting athletes on the international stage. He emphasized the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and enabling athletes to compete at the highest levels, thereby bringing laurels to the state and the nation.
