City colleges join in on PGT’s diamond jubilee celebration

SHILLONG, Feb 29: Joining in on the diamond jubilee anniversary celebration of College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong, several colleges from the city participated in the grand inter-college singing and dancing competition. The event, held on Wednesday and Thursday saw enthusiastic participation from various colleges including Shillong Commerce, Lady Keane College, St. Mary’s College, St. Edmund’s College, Shillong College, and St. Mary’s CTE.
The singing competition, held on Wednesday, featured performances from distinguished artistes such as Haphida Marbaniang, Royal Suting, and Desmond Sunn. Participants competed in two main categories: Regional (Solo/Group) and Western Singing (Solo/Group).
In the Regional Solo category, the winners were Phideibanylla Khongwir from St. Edmund’s College, Graceful L Nonglait from CTE (PGT), and Ashish Paul from Shillong Commerce.
For the Regional Group category, the top positions were secured by College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong in the first place, followed by St. Edmund’s College and Lady Keane College.
In the Western Solo Category, the standout performers were Emily Grazel Jyrwa from St. Edmund’s College, Lilydian G Pohlang from St. Mary’s College, and Mebanaibok Blah from Shillong College. The Western Group Category witnessed St. Anthony’s College clinching the first position, with St. Mary’s College and College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong securing the second and third positions, respectively.
The event was graced by the Principal in-charge of PGT, Shillong, along with teacher representatives from various colleges accompanying their students.
On Thursday, the College held an exhilarating Inter-College Dancing Competition featuring both Solo and Group categories. Artists Dapalei Stacey Warjri, Anniesha Mawrie, and Gautam Sinha lent their talents to the event, adding prestige to the evening.
In the Solo Category, Rikashisha Warjri claimed the coveted 1st place, followed by Freddyson Nongrum in 2nd place and Aiboklang Paul Wanniang in 3rd place.
The Group Category saw Shillong Commerce College securing the 1st position, with College of Teacher Education (PGT) Shillong in 2nd place and St. Mary’s College of Teacher Education in 3rd place.
The event drew to a close at 3 PM, leaving participants and attendees with an unforgettable experience.
