Kharlukhi earmarks Rs 10 lakh for Nongjrong

Shillong, March 3: Rajya Sabha MP, Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi has earmarked Rs 10 lakh for the development of a viewpoint at Rit Lwai in Nongjrong village under Mawkynrew constituency.
Kharlukhi along with MLA, Banteidor Lyngdoh visited Nongjrong village on Saturday in the presence of Mawkynrew BDO, G Dhar and members of the executive committee of Nongjrong village durbar.
It may be mentioned that Nongjrong is emerging as one of the preferred tourist destinations after pictures of its sunrise above the clouds had gone viral on social media. Expressing his gratefulness to the Rajya Sabha MP, the Mawkynrew MLA said that the fund would help in promoting tourism sector in the constituency.

He said that, Kharlukhi had sanctioned the amount after visiting the village during the recent ‘Escape to Nongjrong’ festival.
The MLA appealed to the various stakeholders to join hands in the efforts to promote the tourism sector in the area to create livelihood and employment opportunities for the people.
He also promised to earmark funds from his MLA scheme for the development of the village.
Lyngdoh who is also the president of Mawkynrew Tourism Sociable Society (MTSS) informed that the society has decided to set up an information centre with the help of the tourism department.
