SHILLONG, March 6: The Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of the Meghalaya Police on Wednesday cautioned the candidates applying for the 2,968 posts in the police department to be wary of touts and impersonators promising jobs in exchange of cash.
Talking about the vacancies, Deputy Inspector General-cum-member of CRB, Davis Marak, said, “In some cases, there will be some touts and some people will claim to be a part of the recruitment board or Meghalaya Police who will give assurances that they will help the candidates in clearing these exams, either in the Physical Efficiency Test or the written exams or even in the interview.”
“I would like to say on behalf of the board that the candidates should not respond to such comments or such people because these are all fake as far as CRB is concerned. We have mentioned that at each stage, it will be a transparent recruitment. We will not allow such people to take advantage,” he added.
Stating that people are in desperate need to land a job and may get cheated of lakhs of rupees after falling prey to such lures, Marak said there were such instances in the last recruitment drive when criminal cases were registered and individuals were arrested.
“Please do not listen to such touts. Believe in yourself and in the transparent recruitment process that Meghalaya Police will be conducting,” he urged.
Chairman of CRB, Francis G Kharshiing said, “To avoid any doubts, I request any candidate, who has difficulty in accessing the computer or the Internet, to visit the office of any SP or commandant. They will help you. Please do not rely on any particular person who will ask you for certain money.”
The CRB has requested candidates who have any doubts to contact the helpline number ‘6033164273’ during office hours from 10 am to 5 pm.
The email address has been also provided which is [email protected].
This will be one of the biggest recruitment drives in the Meghalaya Police. The last recruitment drive, carried out in 2019, concluded recently. The delay was caused due to a court case and COVID-19 pandemic.
The current recruitment is expected to meet the manpower deficit but it will take two years till it fully addresses the deficit as the recruits will have to undergo training.
