KHADC okays deficit budget

SHILLONG, March 12: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) passed its annual deficit budget for the year 2024-25 on the second day of its ongoing Budget session here on Tuesday.
Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pynïaid Sing Syiem, who holds the finance portfolio, had presented the budget estimates for the year 2024-2025 on Monday.
It may be noted that the budget has  a deficit of Rs 4.33 lakh. The projected expenditure stood at Rs 329,07,00,710 while the estimated revenue was pegged at 329,02,67,300. The budget estimates of the Council were passed through a voice vote after completing the voting on demand for grants.
In the Budget, General Administration department has been allocated Rs 35.03 crore, Law department Rs 67.20 lakh, Revenue and Finance department Rs 26.78 crore (both plan and non-plan), Forest Administration department Rs 10.07 crore (both plan and non-plan), Civil Works & Development department Rs 234.63 crore (both plan and non-plan), Education department Rs 87.80 lakh, Administration of Justice and Judicial department Rs 6.41 crore, and Enforcement Scheme for Protection of Tribal Land & Interest Rs 5.97 crore.
The main revenue generated by the departments include land revenue, forest, markets, trade, besides taxes on motor vehicles, taxes on professions, royalty on major and minor minerals and others.
The Budget allocation will help in disbursing the salaries of members of the council, chairperson, deputy chairman, leader of opposition, executive members (EMs), officers and staff of the different departments (executive, legislature and judiciary) of the Council.
