BAGHMARA, March 22: In a show of great police work involving at least three police stations of South Garo Hills (SGH), construction worker, Akhilesh Chauhan, who was kidnapped by criminals from just outside their camp in Rongdik near Karukol, was rescued following a 45-hour-long search-and-rescue operation.
Not only was Chauhan rescued from his abductors, the police also arrested two members of the gang that was behind his kidnapping.
On March 20 around 1:40 am, Chauhan was abducted by the group who came knocking on the door of the camp on the pretense of seeking diesel.
When the manager of the firm asked Chauhan to look into the matter, he was waylaid by the group and abducted.
Meanwhile, police have identified two accomplices of the group and a search for the others is currently under way.
The arrested duo has been identified as Wilban M Sangma (30) of the village of Durabanda Songgital, SGH, and Withmil S Marak (29) of the village of Upper Dosgre, Mindikgre, SGH.
“The accused had two more accomplices who were at a different location to make ransom calls following the kidnapping. We are on the lookout for these two. A case under relevant sections has been registered at the Siju Police Station,” informed South Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Bamaniya.
