SHILLONG, March 23: NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof PS Shukla has stated that a committee will be set up to discuss the reconstitution of students’ union.
This comes after students of NEHU Tura campus submitted a letter to the Vice-Chancellor seeking the conduct of election to a student union at Tura NEHU campus while pointing out that there has been no election for the past few years.
“The vice chancellor said that NEHUSU will be the official student union for Shillong NEHU campus and Tura NEHU campus and also the posts and positions will be shared between the campuses,” a statement issued here informed. The VC stated that as per the constitution, there can be only one student union body in the university. For upcoming events in Tura NEHU campus such as varsity week and other programs, the students’ council will take full responsibilities in organising students’ programmes and events until next election is held, the statement said.
The students had also urged the VC that before the NEHUSU election are held, an interim body should be created in Tura campus and election should be conducted within a short period of time.
