SHILLONG, March 25: The ISKON Temple at R&R Colony, Shillong, on Monday celebrated Gaura Purnima, a programme for which was organised to commemorate the 537th birth anniversary of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
According to a statement here, various programmes were also held as part of the day-long celebrations.
As part of the celebration, a Nagar Sankirtana was organised from the temple at 10 am.
On the other hand, a Gaur Katha was also given by acclaimed orator Dr. Premanjan Das at the temple premises, which was then followed by Maha Abhishek, Sandhya Aarati and distribution of prasad.
It may be mentioned that Gaura Purnima is celebrated to mark the appearance day of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is regarded as the conjoined incarnation of Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna as per the beliefs of the Gaudiya Sampradaya.
The way that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu worshipped Lord Krishna via dancing and bhajan-kirtan had a significant impact on Bengali Vaishnavism.
Additionally, he was the leading exponent of the Achintya Bheda Abheda Tattva Vedantic doctrine.
Gaudiya Vaishnavism was established by Mahaprabhu.
It is also believed that Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born on the Falgun Purnima.
