Tura, March 31: West Garo Hills (WGH) district administration, through a communiqué issued Sunday afternoon, has appealed to residents of the district to act responsibly in view of the upcoming celebrations on the occasion of Easter Monday.
Easter Monday is celebrated through Garo Hills on the next day of Easter where families and groups visit various picnic spots in the region to get together.
The celebrations sometimes get out of hand leading to various untoward incidents, including reported deaths that take place during the time. Many Churches too have appealed to sober down on the celebrations though the tradition has continued in the region.
In the appeal by the DC, Jagdish Chelani, an appeal has been made to refrain from consumption of alcohol during picnics tomorrow to maintain a safe and family friendly atmosphere.
Further in light of the adverse weather conditions, revelers have been asked to prioritize safety and individual health and stay away from swimming in water bodies. Also revelers have been asked to choose picnic spots which are at least 50 meters away from river banks and away from huge rock formations.
The DC further sought Easter revelers to be conscious of using biodegradable alternatives to plastic disposables and dispose of waste diligently, ensuring cleanliness of the places where picnics will be held. Lastly the appeal asked picnickers to be considerate and not play loud music or create nuisance for others.
