“Expression through Art” organised by SAN-KER

Shillong, April 1: With the intention of spreading awareness about certain behavior of children known as autism, SAN-KER on Monday organise a special programme “Expression through Art” at its premises at Mawlai Mawroh.

Two of the prominent artists of the State, Benedict Skhemlang Hynniewta and Jaya Kalra also attended the programme as the special guest to motivate the young children from different special schools who are participating in the art completion.

SANKER will also be organizing a walk for Autism as part of World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2 to acknowledge and promote awareness about Autism as a growing global health crisis.

The walk will start from Khyndailad and will end at the Mission Compound Community Hall, which will be followed by a Public Discussion on the same day at 11A.M.

While speaking to reporters, consulting psychiatrist at SAN-KER, Dr Dida Khonglah said that they are organizing this activity at SANKER where they have included children with autism.

According to her, these children are trying to display their talent and creativity through colours adding that one of the themes for this year’s celebration is colour.

She also said that these children are expressing their emotions through papers.

Meanwhile, Kalra said that being an artist she can read the paintings and understand the colours as well as the objects that these children are drawing.

She also said that the people who have this order can express themselves through arts than by saying or telling something.

Benedict said that by taking part in this kind of event it will help to boost the confidence and give encouragement to these specially-abled children

He said that a creative outlet is something which will give a platform to these children to express themselves.
