SHILLONG, April 11: Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) common candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin on Thursday advised people that they will regret if they elect the candidate of a political party just because of a hit song.
Refraining from directly naming the VPP and their popular anthem “Ha U Prah”, Kharjahrin told an election rally at Jatah under Mawkynrew constituency that the election of a candidate to represent the people in Parliament should be based on merit.
It would be futile to send someone who will not be able to highlight the issues afflicting the people and the state in Parliament, he said.
Kharjahrin noted that protracted issues concerning the state like implementation of ILP, inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule resolution of the interstate border issue and creation of a separate IAS/IPS cadre for Meghalaya will be decided by the Parliament.
“Therefore, we have to elect a candidate who will be able to articulate our cause in the Parliament,” he added.
