Shillong, Apr 19: The BJP MLA from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai said that the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills will make the biggest mistake if they do not vote in favour of the NPP candidate, Ampareen Lyngdoh.

While speaking to reporters here on Friday, Shullai said that the people have regretted in the last Lok Sabha polls by electing an MP who will just sit in the corner.

According to him, they will have the same regret for the next five years if they elect someone who will not be part of the BJP led NDA at the Centre.

The BJP MLA said that the election of the candidate backed by both NPP and BJP will benefit the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills in terms of developmental schemes and projects.

‘I am sure that she (Ampareen) will be part of the Union Cabinet if she is elected as an MP. I am confident the people will vote wisely to enjoy the same benefit like other North Eastern States where the BJP has ruled,” Shullai said.

Replying to a query, he said that they have tried their best to clarify to party leaders and workers why the party has set up its candidate and decide to support the NPP in the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

“We have similar arrangements in Tripura and Assam. We must understand that the NPP and BJP are partners both at the Centre and the State,” the BJP MLA said.

Shullai said that he is confident that the party workers and leaders will respect this decision taken by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and party central leadership to vote in favour of the NPP candidate.
