NONGPOH, April 18: As the Lok Sabha polls approach, Ri-Bhoi District is gearing up to elect its new Member of Parliament for the 1-Shillong Parliamentary seat. The Ri-Bhoi Police have intensified security measures, with increased patrols and strict vehicle checks, ensuring a smooth electoral process in accordance with Election Commission directives.
Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), Ri-Bhoi, Jason Myrom, highlighted the extensive preparations for the election. Out of 333 polling stations, 35 critical plus vulnerable ones have received strategic security deployment.
Three additional companies of central forces have been deployed for patrolling and checkpoint operations on April 19.
Noteworthy seizures by the Ri-Bhoi police between March 1 and April 17 include large quantities of liquor and narcotics.
Addressing breaches of the Model Code of Conduct, incidents in Umsning led to police action, with investigations ongoing. To facilitate the deployment of polling personnel, teams have been dispatched, with heightened security at critical stations, emphasizing law enforcement’s commitment to fair elections.
