TURA, April 21: Tura-based social activist Cherian Momin on Sunday condemned the gruesome murder of three people from Assam’s Goalpara district in East Garo Hills recently, and has made a fervent appeal to concerned authorities to investigate the matter immediately and bring the culprits to justice.
The bodies of the three victims, viz. Jamor Ali (35), Noor Ahmed and Zahidul Islam (25), all hailing from Dolgoma village in Assam’s Goalpara district, were earlier recovered by East Garo Hills Police from a dense jungle in the district.
After reports of them going missing were informed to the police, a thorough investigation led to the discovery of one vehicle in a burnt condition inside a dense jungle near the village link road connecting Rogu Alda.
The scene revealed a freshly dug pit filled with fresh soil near the vehicle, where the bodies of the deceased were recovered in a charred state.
The heinous nature of the crime had prompted calls from relatives for the intervention of the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam to ensure a speedy investigation and arrest of the culprits.
The condemnation by Momin comes in the wake of angry groups from Assam strongly protesting against the incident and demanding action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the social activist has also urged the residents of both states to maintain peace and refrain from violence or retaliation in the wake of the triple homicide.
