TURA, April 26: South West Garo Hills Police have so far arrested seven persons in connection with the heinous gang-rape case of two minor tribal girls during the Chenga Benga Mela in the district on April 17.
Initially, four suspects were detained, and following comprehensive interrogations and analysis, an additional three suspects were apprehended on Friday, police said.
All arrested individuals hail from Teporpara, South Salmara in Mankachar district of Assam, situated near the site of the incident.
The arrested individuals are currently under police custody for a period of five days, as investigations continue to unfold. While certain suspects remain at large, Ampati Police, in collaboration with Assam Police, are diligently working to locate and apprehend the remaining perpetrators.
