Plaint against illegal sand mining in GH

TURA, April 30: Williamnagar-based A’chik Progressive Approach has filed a complaint against the MP Agarwal Private Limited Company for allegedly carrying out illegal sand mining from Samanda Kakwa in the Simsang River.
The complaint was filed on Tuesday with the District Forest and Environment Officer, Simsanggre Forest Range in the East Garo Hills.
Pointing out that the illegal sand mining activity is degrading the environment as well as posing a threat to the Simsang river, which the locals are heavily dependent on, the organisation demanded that the equipment and machineries of the company be seized and legal action be initiated.
The group has also demanded that the company in question be blacklisted from executing works in Garo Hills region.
