SHILLONG, May 3: The abnormally-delayed Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) phase-III is likely to be commissioned by the end of this year with the project clearing the Hima Mawphlang hurdle.
The PHE Department was facing problems to construct the pumping station due to objection by the Hima Mawphlang who have been demanding a sizeable number of jobs for residents against the land they donated for the project.
PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak on Friday said laying of pipes for the distribution system is on. The pipe-laying work has been completed in half of the 12 zones. In some of the zones, the department was facing problem due to delay in grant of permission by the concerned departments. “We are planning to complete the Phase-III within this year since the issue that was pending with Hima Mawphlang has been sorted out recently and we are hopeful of starting the construction work of the pumping station,” Marak said.
