SHILLONG, May 8: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Wednesday urged the NPP-led MDA Government to appoint senior IPS officer Idashisha Nongrang as the next DGP of Meghalaya.
“It will be a matter of pride for the people of the state to have the police chief from amongst the indigenous community of the state. Her appointment will bring better connect between the police force and the people due to her knowledge of the local conditions. Nongrang is known for her professionalism, dedication and efficiency,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said, adding that it would be a grave injustice to the state if the government fails to appoint her as the next DGP.
He said the VPP will submit a formal petition to the government on Thursday seeking Nongrang’s appointment as the DGP.
The UPSC has cleared the names of Nongrang (1992 batch), Ram Prasad Meena (1993), and Deepak Kumar (1994) for appointment as the DGP after incumbent state police chief Lajja Ram Bishnoi demits office on May 19.
