SWGH gang-rape case: Rally demands justice for victims

TURA, May 9: Scores of people, on Thursday, participated in the ‘Silent Mass Rally’ at Ampati in South West Garo Hills, organised by the Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union to demand justice for the victims of the gang-rape that took place during the Chenga Benga Mela on April 16.
The rally commenced from the Ghasura Cultural Centre and proceeded to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a memorandum was submitted highlighting the urgent need to enhance safety measures for women.
During the rally, thousands of people participated, representing various organisations, including the Meghalaya Koch Association, Meghalaya Koch Women Association, All A’chik Youth Federation, Meghalaya Hajong Welfare Association, Garo Students’ Union, A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement, Achik Youth Welfare Organisation and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
