TURA, May 12: Two local organisations from Rongara in South Garo Hills — the AOSW and FKJGP — have condemned the alleged shoddy construction as well as repair of the state highway from Panda to Kanaidao, while urging the concerned authorities to look into the matter.
According to the two organisations, due to its poor construction, the newly constructed highway has already developed several potholes on various stretches. To make matters worse, the groups claimed that repair of the same is being undertaken by applying only concrete underneath and a thin layer of tar on top.
A video from the construction site which was sent along with the statement by the two groups showed workers pouring liquid tar over what appeared to be newly applied concrete on the road.
Members of the two organizati0on can also be heard questioning the workers if the liquid tar was being applied merely for colour, to which there was no response.
“They are trying to deceive the people. They are pouring tsar over the surface so that the concrete underneath cannot be detected. This is going to be a safety hazard as well as it will be slippery when it is wet and might cause accidents in the future,” one of the members can be heard saying, in the video.
Meanwhile, the groups while strongly condemning the shoddy work has urged the government, the district authorities including the concerned authorities to look into the matter at the earliest.
