implementation of govt schemes

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, May 17: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday emphasised the importance of putting people first in every decision, while addressing the deputy commissioners (DCs) and subdivisional officers (SDOs) during a conference here.
Doing so, the chief minister continued, should further the growth and development of the state.
According to a statement here, the deputy commissioners’ and sub-divisional officers’ (Civil) conference was aimed at informing the officials about various interventions being undertaken to advance the development agenda through data-driven governance.
During the conference, Conrad also urged the officials at the state, district, and subdivision levels to work in collaboration, so as to ensure the effective implementation of various programmes and schemes.
“The conference is very crucial as the feedback we receive from DCs and SDOs is important for the public at large,” he said.
Conrad also spoke about the state government’s vision to make Meghalaya a USD 10-billion economy, while stressing that every stakeholder in the system must work in synergy to realise the target.
“We have connected the vision of a 10-billion dollar economy to different social and infrastructural goals. We are not only a GDP-driven government but have connected GDP growth to social and infrastructural goals,” he added.
Informing that different indicators of growth and development have improved significantly in the past six years, Conrad continued, “We have been able to do better in various central and state schemes because efficiency in executing and implementing these schemes has improved through proper coordination, monitoring, shared commitment, and accountability.”
The chief minister also urged the DCs and SDOs to make regular visits to and conduct inspections of schools, hospitals, PHCs, CHCs, etc., and report to the government through different technology-enabled services.
Maintaining that such reports will allow policymakers to make informed decisions, the chief minister said, “Reform is one of our top agenda. We want to reform the delivery of services to the people.”
He also urged the officials to work as a team and to keep the goal of serving the people at the forefront.
During the conference, Commissioner and Secretary Dr. Vijay Kumar detailed the technology-driven interventions for the state governance, including the CM-Connect and DC-Connect platforms.
