SHILLONG, May 19: Senior IPS officer, Idashisha Nongrang will take over as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya on Monday.
Nongrang is the first woman IPS officer to head the state police.
When contacted on Sunday, Nongrang said there is a sense of pride but admitted that it was a big responsibility.
She said there are lots of challenges ahead. “I will strive to work to meet those challenges as best as I can,” Nongrang said.
Nongrang, whose career includes a substantial tenure with the Intelligence Bureau (IB), was on deputation as Director General of Civil Defence & Home Guard in Meghalaya before she was appointed as outgoing DGP, Lajja Ram Bishnoi’s successor.
Nongrang will serve as the DGP for a fixed tenure of two year from May 20, 2024, until May 19, 2026.
