SHILLONG, May 19: The voice of dissent continues to simmer within the Meghalaya BJP even one month after the Lok Sabha polls, with a section of disgruntled party leaders lamenting that party president, Rikman G Momin and his team was sidelining the senior leaders from Garo Hills.
The disgruntled leaders claimed that the BJP’s organisation has collapsed under the incumbent president. They also claimed that there is resentment against BJP Meghalaya in charge, M Chuba Ao who is the main link between the party unit in Meghalaya and the central leadership.
They claim that Ao, despite being a tall leader, failed to convince the central leadership to contest the polls from Meghalaya.
Lamenting that senior leaders from Garo Hills are being sidelined, the disgruntled party leaders went on to allege that fake Mandal committees were being constituted in Garo Hills without the consent of the senior leaders.
Some of the BJP leaders, on condition of anonymity, said that the party president and his team did not provide any logistical support to the party workers in the recent election where the party had extended its support to the NPP candidates in both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats.
“Election funds were not provided to the party workers making it difficult for them to generate support for the alliance partners,” the BJP leaders said, while making it clear that funding is necessary to generate support for the alliance partners.
When contacted, BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang denied receiving any complaint about monetary support not being provided to party workers.
