SHILLONG, May 20: As part of the war on drugs initiated by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), the group has extended a helping hand to two youthsw struggling with drug addiction.
The HYC successfully admitted the two youths, apprehended for drug use in Motphran, to the Alive Again Rehabilitation Centre near Guwahati, Assam.
Informing about this initiative, HYC Mawlai circle president, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh, stated that they arranged the rehabilitation placement after consulting with the duo’s parents.
“We do not want our mission to combat drugs to end solely in conducting drives to apprehend drug peddlers and addicts. We aim to assist these youths in overcoming drug addiction through rehabilitation,” he said.
Kharlyngdoh acknowledged that they lack the resources to support all families who cannot afford rehabilitation for their children.
The HYC leader emphasised that it is the state government’s responsibility to establish sufficient rehabilitation centres to aid low-income families with drug-addicted youths.
It is pertinent to mention that the HYC has conducted several raids against drug peddling and substance abuse in various locations across the city.
